Former NBA guard Isaiah Thomas shared on social media that he wishes he could talk to Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant or Nipsey Hussle right now.
It appears that Thomas is currently going through something, but unfortunately both Bryant and Hussle are no longer with us. Bryant sadly passed away in January of 2020 in a helicopter crash and the famous rapper was tragically shot and killed back in March of 2019.
Thomas’ post just goes to show how respected and revered both legends were, as they were someone that the former Boston Celtics guard relied on for advice through his life and likely in his basketball career.
Thomas, 35, was the No. 60 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, but he has gone on to carve out an impressive NBA career despite being one of the smallest players in the NBA.
The University of Washington product has made an All-NBA team and two All-Star teams in his NBA career. He last played for the Phoenix Suns in the 2023-24 season, appearing in six games and averaging 1.3 points per game.
Thomas has bounced around a lot in recent seasons, playing for the Washington Wizards, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets and Suns all since the start of the 2019-20 season.
The two-time All-Star’s best season came during the 2016-17 season when he finished fifth in the NBA in MVP voting. During that season, Thomas averaged 28.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game while shooting 46.3 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from 3-point range.
However, he was traded by the Celtics in the offseason in the deal that brought Kyrie Irving to Boston. Thomas has not found the same success since, and he dealt with a hip injury in the 2017 NBA Playoffs that may have caused him to struggle as his career went on.
It’s unfortunate that Thomas was never able to regain his All-NBA form, but he has still found a way to get some opportunities in the league over the last few seasons.
Hopefully, Thomas will be able to find a support system to get him through these trying times.
