The Boston Celtics are slated to visit the White House on Thursday to celebrate the team’s 2024 NBA title. The Celtics dominated the rest of the NBA from start to finish a season ago, considering they ended the regular season with a 64-18 record and lost just three games in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
But Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla didn’t express much excitement when he was asked about Boston’s upcoming White House visit.

Mazzulla is seemingly a quirky individual and has made headlines on a number of occasions for his memorable quotes. Recently, he explained that when Charles Lee left the Celtics’ coaching staff to become the newest head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, he told Lee that he wasn’t going to speak to him during the season and referred to him as an enemy.

The 36-year-old’s nonchalant response to the subject of the Celtics’ impending visit to the White House suggests that he’s put Boston’s great season behind him and is focused on leading the storied franchise to back-to-back titles.
So far in the 2024-25 regular season, Boston looks like a title contender once again. At 11-3, the Celtics own the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, and the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are the only two teams in the NBA with better winning percentages right now.
It’s also worth noting that Boston has played at such a high level all without star big man Kristaps Porzingis, who has yet to make his season debut with the Celtics. When Porzingis is healthy and in the starting lineup, he raises the team to another level because of all that he can do on both sides of the ball.
Before the Celtics travel to the nation’s capital, the team will have a chance to snap the Cleveland Cavaliers’ historic undefeated start to the season. Boston will host the 15-0 Cavaliers at TD Garden on Tuesday night in what stands out as one of the more anticipated games of the campaign to this point.
However, the Celtics haven’t fared all that well at home to begin the campaign, as they have a 4-2 home record compared to a road record of 7-1.
