Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday shared some interesting information about the spending habits of his former teammate Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Holiday and Antetokounmpo played together with the Milwaukee Bucks, winning the NBA Finals in the 2020-21 season. Antetokounmpo won the Finals MVP award that season, scoring 50 points in Game 6 of the 2021 NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns to win the Bucks the series.
“He also the cheapest son of a b—- that I know,” Holiday said of Antetokounmpo. “He got all that money. But again, I think it’s just ’cause where he started from. He really didn’t have no money. And now he still like he ain’t got no money.”
Holiday continued.
“But Giannis one of my favorite people,” he said. “Especially me and him, I think we complemented each other very, very well. And it was fun. My time in Milwaukee was fun, man – got my first chip.”
A two-time league MVP, Antetokounmpo certainly has made a name for himself in his time in the NBA. The Bucks star is currently making over $48 million in the 2024-25 season, and he has an extension kicking in on his contract that is estimated to pay him over $175 million across three seasons.
Since he came from humble beginnings, Antetokounmpo appears to be very careful with how he spends his earnings from his basketball career.
It’s nice to see that Holiday has such high praise for Antetokounmpo, as the two of them shared some impressive runs in the playoffs together in Milwaukee, especially the team’s NBA Finals win.
Prior to last season, Holiday was traded by the Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers in the trade that sent All-Star guard Damian Lillard to Milwaukee.
Things ended up working out for Holiday, though, as he was traded to the Celtics and ended up winning his second title in his NBA career with the franchise last season. Holiday and the Celtics are off to a strong start in the 2024-25 season, winning 17 of their first 21 games.
Meanwhile, Antetokounmpo is putting up some impressive stats for the Bucks. Through 17 appearances, the eight-time All-Star is averaging 32.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game this season while shooting 60.9 percent from the field.
He and the Bucks are in action on Tuesday night, as they’ll take on the Detroit Pistons in an NBA Cup matchup.
