Former NBA big man Kendrick Perkins expressed his severe doubts about a meeting ever taking place between past Boston Celtics teammates Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.
Perkins, who played with both players while with the Celtics, spoke with Brandon Robinson on Heavy Live With Scoop B. Perkins mentioned that Allen’s main reason for leaving the Celtics in free agency was because of a diminished role on the team.
The feud between Garnett and Allen stems from the fact that Allen chose not to speak with any of his teammates when he left.
“I’m telling you, trying to get guys to come to one place; trying to call KG to say, ‘Hey man, we’re going to dinner and oh yeah, Ray’s going to be there…’ nah, It ain’t happening,” Perkins said. “So it’s going to have to happen by accident and I’ma have to set all the guys up, ‘Hey man. Look Ray. I’m going to Vegas. Come meet me out there…’ and I’ma have KG meet me out there too; I can’t just tell him. But doing it intentionally, I don’t see it happening.”
Allen, Garnett and Perkins had all been part of the Celtics’ 2008 NBA title team and were still together two years later when the Celtics lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the seventh game of the NBA Finals
That close bond forged between teammates unraveled in 2012 when Allen left to play for the Heat, and eight years later, it appears that it may be a long time before any repair takes place.
