Report: Jaylen Brown is still committed to Celtics despite being involved in trade rumors

Recently, reports made the rounds that linked the Boston Celtics to Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant. The Celtics reportedly offered up Jaylen Brown in a potential deal for the veteran.

Despite rumors that the Celtics have considered trading Brown, the talented player wants to remain in Boston.

“For all the hiccups in Brown’s relationship with the fanbase, he’s still committed to Boston,” Jared Weiss of The Athletic reported. “When WEEI’s Jermaine Wiggins claimed that Brown told him he wouldn’t re-sign in Boston when his contract expires in 2024, Brown was perplexed and denied the report behind closed doors, sources familiar with Brown’s thinking told The Athletic. In spite of the trade talks, Brown wants to be in Boston.”

Up to this point, it seems as though Brown is the most talented player that has been included in any potential deal for Durant. For the most part, interested teams have seemingly been looking to part ways with future draft picks rather than established stars in the league.

Though Brown is seen as a star player, he is not considered to be on the same level as Durant. Still, he had a fantastic season with the Celtics in the 2021-22 campaign, as he averaged 23.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in the regular season.

Of course, he also helped the Celtics advance all the way to the 2022 NBA Finals. They defeated the Nets in the first round of their playoff run. Brown averaged 23.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game during the 2022 postseason.

Though it may sting a bit for Brown to hear his name included in trade rumors, it is nothing new for players in the NBA. As of now, no trade between the Celtics and Nets appears imminent.
