According to a recent report, the Chicago Bulls have kicked around the idea of reuniting with veteran point guard Derrick Rose.
“It’s why secondary targets such as Derrick Rose can’t be ruled out,” wrote K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports. “In fact, internal conversations on the viability and fit of the former Bull and former most valuable player have occurred, just as they have with all candidates.”
Rose, of course, began his career with the Bulls after the organization selected him with the top pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. For several years, Rose looked like the next big thing in the NBA, and he even won an MVP award in the 2010-11 season. Unfortunately, an ACL injury changed everything for him.
Rose was never the same player after the setback. He averaged 21.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game in four seasons prior to the injury, and he has averaged 16.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists in eight seasons since.
Despite the decrease in production, Rose is still a solid NBA player. During his 2020-21 campaign with the New York Knicks, he averaged 14.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. He was a key contributor.
The strong showing with New York will likely warrant a fair amount of interest for the 32-year-old this offseason. He could be a great fit with a Bulls team that is in need of some talent.
