A new report indicates that the Dallas Mavericks and their young superstar, Luka Doncic, are not currently engaging in talks about a contract extension.
NBA analyst Marc J. Spears appeared on ESPN’s “The Jump” and spoke (at the 1:15 mark) about Doncic’s pending contract talks that aren’t currently taking place.
“Also being told about the $200 million extension,” Spears said. “How are talks going? People close to him are saying, ‘We’ll talk.’ There’s no talks right now.”
The 22-year-old Doncic has played just three years in the NBA, but has already more than lived to his status as the third overall pick in the 2018 draft.
During those three seasons, Doncic has averaged 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game, numbers that have him potentially in line for an extension that could for as much as $200 million over five years.
While it’s inconceivable that the Mavericks would not re-sign Doncic, how smoothly the negotiations progress will be important for his next deal with the Mavs.
