Report: Nuggets were elated that Nikola Jokic’s extension shielded them from ‘B.S.’ that other teams have faced with their stars

The Denver Nuggets are led by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, and they know that Jokic will continue leading them for years to come.

The reason for that is because earlier this offseason, Jokic signed a five-year extension worth a jaw-dropping $270 million.

That fact clearly came as a massive relief to the Nuggets front office. According to a recent report, people around the team were “pinching themselves” by the end of the process because they didn’t have to deal with any drama.

“People around the Nuggets were pinching themselves that they were fortunate not to have to deal with some of the BS that other teams have to deal with,” Mike Singer said while speaking with HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto. “It’s a testament to who Joker is and the relationship they’ve built since he came over in 2015.”

Last season, Jokic put in another masterful performance on his way to his second straight MVP award. He averaged 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game in 74 regular season games.

Unfortunately for the team, it faced off against the Golden State Warriors, the eventual NBA champions, in the first round of the playoffs. The Nuggets were bounced by the Warriors in just five games.

With that in mind, the team was without some of its most talented players last season. Jamal Murray missed the entire year with a torn ACL. Michael Porter Jr. only played in nine games.

The hope is that both players will be back for the start of the 2022-23 regular season. If both talents can stay healthy and Jokic can continue to produce at an astronomically high level, the Nuggets could be a scary team in the West.
