Thanks to former No. 1 overall draft pick Cade Cunningham, the Detroit Pistons have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
However, building the roster around Cunningham may also require the Pistons to make some moves to better suit the young star.
That could be part of the reason why Jerami Grant is reportedly “widely expected” to be moved in the near future.
“The incumbent is widely expected to be on the move this summer, as he’s entering the final year of his contract and doesn’t look to be on the same timetable as the rest of the Pistons’ roster,” ESPN’s Jonathan Givony wrote regarding Grant.
Though Grant is certainly a talented player, he is older than many of Detroit’s other key players. He’ll turn 29 years old during the 2022-23 NBA season.
Cunningham, meanwhile, is just 20 years old. The Pistons are likely trying to build a team that consists of as many young players as possible.
Grant played in just 47 games in the 2021-22 season due to injury, but he averaged 19.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists per contest in those appearances. Surely, there are plenty of teams around the league that would be happy to have that kind of production.
Once the NBA offseason officially gets started, the needs of teams all over the league will start to come into focus, and any potential suitors for Grant will likely start to reveal themselves.
It will be interesting to see what kind of packages teams try to put together to potentially land the talented forward.
