Detroit Pistons star Blake Griffin is one of the most overpaid big men in the league.
In order to ship him, the Pistons may have to include a younger player or draft sweetner in a potential deal.
“The same goes for the Pistons with power forward Blake Griffin — though word is the Pistons may try to ‘sweeten’ a potential Griffin deal with a younger player or draft pick,” reported Sam Amico of FortyEightMinutes.com.
Griffin, 31, is having one of the worst campaigns of his career.
As a matter of fact, he’s putting up a career-low 12.3 points along with 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per contest this season. He’s started in 20 games for the Pistons.
Furthermore, the Pistons hold an abysmal 7-19 record. They’re the No. 14 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Clearly, the Pistons don’t believe they can compete for a championship anytime soon. The franchise recently dealt veteran guard Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks.
As for Griffin, he would be better off on a contender at this stage of his career as well. However, his gargantuan contract makes him hard to move in a trade.
The veteran is in the middle of a five-year, $171 million contract that he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2017. The deal is fully guaranteed and runs through the end of 2021-22 season.
