Enes Freedom plans to play another ‘6 or 7 years’ in the NBA: ‘People know I can still go out there and play’

Enes Freedom is currently without a home in the NBA, but the center isn’t planning on walking away from the game of basketball anytime soon.

He recently spoke about wanting to play for another “six or seven years in the league” before presumably calling it quits. He cited his good health and love of basketball as reasons for why he wants to keep playing.

Freedom also implied that his production in the 2020-21 NBA season proves that he can still play at a solid level.

“I averaged [a] double-double last year and people know I can still go out there and play,” he said to the Agence France-Presse.

“I’m 29, and I plan to play another six or seven years in the league because my body feels healthy and I love basketball.”

Ultimately, it remains to be seen if Freedom will play in the NBA again. The last time the big man saw action in a game was with the Boston Celtics in February of this season.

Freedom averaged 3.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest in limited minutes with the Celtics this season, appearing in 35 games along the way.

Prior to the trade deadline, the Celtics dealt Freedom to the Houston Rockets. He was waived by the Rockets before appearing in a game for them.

As Freedom mentioned, he did average a double-double in the 2020-21 season. He spent the campaign with the Portland Trail Blazers and went for 11.2 points and 11.0 rebounds per contest.

Unfortunately for the 29-year-old, his defense is a major weakness in his game. He’s often regarded as a liability on the defensive end of the floor, which has caused him to see limited playing time in big games throughout his career.

That’s certainly an area where he’d want to improve if he were to find himself in the NBA again at some point in the future.
