Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas has been in the news quite a lot lately after he made some controversial statements about two-time MVP and one-time NBA champ Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Though there were a lot of people disagreeing with his statements related to Antetokounmpo, few will likely argue with Arenas’ recent statement regarding Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry.
During a recent appearance on VLADTV, Arenas exclaimed that Curry is the greatest NBA player of all time amidst players coming in at 6-foot-4 and under.
“His highlight reels are amazing for what it is,” he said. “When you’re talking about dribbling skills and the stuff he does to people, it’s amazing. But you got to remember, when it comes to levels of just men themselves, he’s like the king of 6-3 and under. Like you know that’s how we should do it, right?
“6-3, 6-4 and under, Curry is the king, he’s the GOAT. … Curry is the GOAT. It seems like that’s how you do it. Just like [Floyd] Mayweather. Because when you talk about the greatest boxers of all time, mentally you go for the people who knocked out the most people.”
No matter his height, Curry is absolutely going to go down as one of the most impactful players in the history of the game. In fact, an argument can be made that Curry was the main driver behind the entire league’s movement to focus heavily on shooting from 3-point land.
However, few players can shoot like Curry can. He has a career shooting percent of 47.3 percent from the field and 42.8 percent from deep. He’s still got many years of ball ahead of him, and he already leads the league in all-time 3-pointers made with 3,117.
His shooting is far from all that he’s done to leave a mark on the league, either. With the 2022 NBA championship, Curry is now a four-time NBA champ. He’s also an eight-time All-NBA player, two-time MVP and one-time Finals MVP.
The question now is how much more can Curry, 34, accomplish before his career in the NBA comes to an end. The Warriors are still led by a veteran trio of Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, but there are a lot of young and talented players on the roster as well.
The new guard in San Francisco includes Jordan Poole, James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga.
Depending on how much longer Curry plays, it wouldn’t be much of a shock to see him win one or two more titles before it’s all said and done.
