Former NBA guard Jason Williams had a harsh response for Max Kellerman’s infamous take that he’d rather have Andre Iguodala shoot the last shot over Stephen Curry for the Golden State Warriors.
“Of everyone on Golden State, open shot, fate of the universe on the line or the martians have the death beam pointed at Earth, you better hit it, I want Iguodala,” Kellerman said.
Williams reacted to the clip recently, issuing a harsh statement towards Kellerman.
“Max Kellerman needs his tongue cut out of his mouth so he can never speak again,” Williams said.
The former NBA champion went on to say that other ESPN analysts might as well shoot the last shot if Kellerman wasn’t going to pick Curry or Klay Thompson.
“He might as well let Stephen A. [Smith] or Windy (Brian Windhorst) shoot the last shot,” Williams added. “With Steph Curry on the team and Klay Thompson on the team still? Come on, man.”
There’s no doubt that Kellerman’s take wasn’t a popular one, but Iguodala did hit a massive shot in Game 2 of the 2019 NBA Finals to help Golden State even the series at one game apiece.
However, the Warriors went on to lose that series in six games, as Kevin Durant and Thompson both suffered major injuries that knocked them out of the lineup. Thompson tore his ACL against Toronto, causing him to sit out the 2019-20 season with the injury while Durant ruptured his Achilles.
Durant ended up leaving the Warriors in the offseason, ending the team’s dominance with him, Curry and Thompson all on the roster. Golden State did not make it back to the NBA Finals until the 2021-22 season when it defeated the Boston Celtics.
This isn’t the first time that Williams has taken a shot at a media personality for an opinion on the game of basketball. He also attacked Windhorst recently for the ESPN analyst’s thoughts on Allen Iverson.
“The only thing that really stood out to me about that was his neck,” Williams said of Windhorst. “How can anybody say anything negative about Allen Iverson, for all people, but just anybody in general, with a neck like that?”
Williams clearly doesn’t have much of a filter when he’s voicing his opinion, and it’ll be interesting to see if his comments warrant any response from Kellerman.
