Klay Thompson reacts to criticism of him supposedly putting Reggie Miller over Steph Curry

In the caption of a recent Instagram post, Dallas Mavericks forward Klay Thompson implied that former Indiana Pacers star guard Reggie Miller is the greatest perimeter shooter in NBA history.

Thompson’s post caused a stir among folks, as the 34-year-old just so happened to play alongside Stephen Curry for the first 10-plus seasons of his pro career. Curry has more made 3s to his name than any player in league history and had a hand in influencing the 3-point heavy style of play in today’s game.

But Thompson clarified his caption and admitted that he did not put Miller above Curry in terms of perimeter shooting. He also said that he believes Curry is the best shooter ever.

Miller made 3s at a high level back at a time when the 3-point shot wasn’t as vital a part of NBA offenses.  Despite that fact, he still ranks sixth all time in made 3s during the regular season with a whopping 2,560.

Thompson and Curry were the pillars of a Warriors dynasty. Golden State won four championships during a span from 2015 through 2022.

However, the writing was on the wall for Thompson’s tenure with the Warriors at the end of last season. He averaged his fewest points per game since the 2012-13 campaign for a Golden State team that didn’t even qualify for the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Hence, the Dallas Mavericks acquired Thompson in a sign-and-trade deal in the offseason, and so far in the 2024-25 season, he’s been a key contributor for one of the Western Conference’s top teams.

Thompson is averaging 14.1 points per game on 38.5 percent shooting from 3-point range in his first season as a Maverick, and Dallas owns the fourth-best record in the West at the moment at 20-11.

His former team, on the other hand, finds itself on the outside looking in on the Western Conference playoff picture. The Warriors have a record of 15-15 and are winners of only three of their last 10 contests.

Golden State and Dallas won’t face off again this season until Feb. 12 in what will be a home contest for the Mavericks.
