Shams Charania of The Athletic recently provided an update on Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry’s ankle injury.
Curry suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Golden State’s loss to the Chicago Bulls at home on March 7. He dropped 15 points, three rebounds and one assist while shooting 5-of-18 from the field and 3-of-12 from deep in just under 29 minutes of action.
The floor general wasn’t playing at the top of his game from a scoring standpoint against Chicago, considering he is averaging 26.9 points per game on 44.9 percent shooting from the field across 59 games played this season.
The Bulls managed to beat the Warriors at Chase Center thanks largely to the scoring contributions of DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic, both of whom scored 33 points.
The former shot 10-of-17 from the floor and 3-of-6 from 3-point range, while the latter shot 14-of-23 from the field and 3-of-6 from deep.
Chicago handed the Warriors their second loss in their last three games. Golden State recently suffered an embarrassing road loss to the Boston Celtics on March 3, as it lost by 52 points and trailed by 22 after the first quarter.
Curry also had one of his more forgettable showings of the 2023-24 regular season in the team’s blowout loss to the Celtics, as he ended up with just four points on 2-of-13 shooting from the floor.
At 33-29, the Warriors are now a game and a half behind the Dallas Mavericks for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference and three games back of the Sacramento Kings for the No. 7 seed.
Thankfully for Warriors fans, the team’s next two games on its regular-season slate will be against one of the worst teams in the NBA in the San Antonio Spurs. Golden State will take on the Spurs on March 9 and again two days later on March 11.
Warriors fans should feel optimistic of the team’s chances of picking up wins in each of its next two games regardless of Curry’s injury status, as the Spurs own the worst record in the Western Conference at 13-50.
