Report: Plane issue stranded Warriors in New York until nearly 5 a.m. after beating Knicks

According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, the Golden State Warriors’ plane had a mechanical issue. Thus, the team didn’t depart from New York following their game against the New York Knicks until early Friday morning.

The Warriors picked up an impressive road win over the Knicks on Thursday. Jonathan Kuminga and Stephen Curry carried much of the scoring load for Golden State.

The former dropped 25 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks on 12-of-19 shooting from the field. As for the latter, he finished with a team-high 31 points and also made his presence felt on the glass, as he grabbed 11 rebounds.

Golden State’s victory over the Knicks marked its fourth win in its last five games. The Warriors’ lone loss during that span was to the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 25.

The team improved to 31-27 with the win, but the Warriors still have work to do in order to become a top-eight seed in the Western Conference. For reference, Golden State is currently two games back of the Sacramento Kings — who own the No. 8 seed — in the standings.

Looking even further up the Western Conference standings, the Warriors are three games behind the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 6 seed.

Curry’s play in the month of February has had a role in the Warriors stacking up wins lately. The guard averaged 27.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 41.6 percent from 3-point range.

He has scored 40-plus points three times since the start of February. He dropped 41 points versus the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 14 and 42 points against the Indiana Pacers on Feb. 8. But most impressively, he racked up 60 points in a loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Feb. 3.

Hopefully for Golden State, the Warriors’ plane troubles won’t negatively impact their play in their upcoming matchup against the Raptors on Friday. The Raptors were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in their most recent game on Feb. 28.
