Report: Stephen Curry partnering with Bruce Lee Foundation to support Asian community

When Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry takes the court for his team’s game on Sunday, he’ll be wearing Under Armour sneakers that depict Asian martial arts icon Bruce Lee on them.

Nick DePaula of The Undefeated spoke with Curry, who indicated his work with the Bruce Lee Foundation on this concept stemmed from his anger over the March 16 shootings in the Atlanta area. That tragedy resulted in the deaths of eight people, including six Asian women.

“Disgust, horror and outright anger at why any violence keeps happening in our country,” Curry said. “After all we have been through this past year, let alone in the history of our country, people still deal with unnecessary tragedy and are afraid for their lives. We have to do better.”

Over the past few months, a number of acts of violence have been directed at Asian-Americans across the country. The apparent reason for those attacks is connected to the belief that the highly contagious coronavirus originated in China.

Curry is also cognizant of the fact that the Bay Area has a strong Asian population, which has no doubt felt the emotional impact from that violence.
