NBA superstar Stephen Curry caught the attention of some earlier this month after he made a curious change to his Instagram bio.
Before he made the change, part of his bio was dedicated to him being a guard for the Golden State Warriors. After the change, the mention of the Warriors was replaced with the words “Olympic Gold Medalist.”
Curry recently cleared the air on the matter with a simple statement.
“I was just proud to be an Olympian,” he said. “That’s the plan (to be with the Warriors forever). That’s the plan.”
Being an Olympian was a new feeling for Curry this summer, as it was his first time ever playing on that stage. He didn’t disappoint, helping Team USA win gold in Paris and putting together some iconic moments in the process.
In the semifinals against Serbia, Curry dropped 36 points, and in the gold medal match against France, he went for 24. He was unstoppable down the stretch of the final game, seemingly knocking down 3-pointers at will.
If Curry hadn’t participated in the Olympics this summer, it’s unclear if he would’ve gotten another chance to do so, as he’s already 36 years old. He’ll be 40 by the time the Olympics come to Los Angeles in 2028.
The veteran has spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors, and while he might have caused a little bit of a panic after changing his Instagram bio, it sounds like he’d love to remain with Golden State until his playing days are over.
He just signed a one-year extension with the Warriors that will keep him under contract through the 2026-27 season.
Curry, a future Hall of Famer, averaged 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game in his most recent NBA season. He’s a two-time MVP and four-time NBA champion, and he’s certainly hoping to add another ring to his collection before calling it quits on a legendary career.
But for now, he appears to be appreciating the fact that he’s an Olympic gold medalist — as he should after helping Team USA reach the promised land this summer.
Later on, the Warriors will open their 2024-25 regular season on Oct. 23 against the Portland Trail Blazers.
