At this point in his storied career, Stephen Curry is likely expected to one day retire as a member of the Golden State Warriors.
After all, he’s been with the Warriors for his entire professional career, and he has already won two MVP awards and four NBA titles. He is the face of the franchise and will probably go down as the greatest player to ever play for the team when it’s all said and done.
However, the superstar guard did recently raise some eyebrows with a statement that made it clear that he likes what he sees in the Charlotte Hornets. In fact, he said that if there were one team in the NBA that he’d think about playing for aside from the Warriors, it would be the Hornets.
He said as much when receiving the key to the city of Charlotte.
“I’ve always said I wanted to finish my career at Golden State because of how much it means to me and the experiences and teammates and the journey that we’ve been on,” he said.
“Everybody asks me, ‘You wanna play one year for the Hornets and come back?’ … I am not breaking any news right now. I’m not making any promises. All I would say though is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that would be it.”
Though Curry was born in Ohio, he has strong personal ties to Charlotte and the state of North Carolina.
Curry lived in Charlotte for years and graduated from Charlotte Christian School. He then attended Davidson College from 2006 to 2009 before leaving early to join the NBA’s ranks. He officially graduated from Davidson in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.
At 34 years old, Curry is either in or approaching the final stages of his NBA career. He’s still an incredibly effective star, but there’s no doubt that Father Time wins every battle in the end.
Last season, he averaged 25.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. He took his game to the next level in the playoffs, and he went on to win the Finals MVP award for the first time in his career after leading his team to the 2022 championship.
