Report: John Wall has been working out in Miami away from Houston Rockets, isn’t interested in losing money in buyout

Five-time All-Star John Wall is not currently practicing with the team that signs his checks. In fact, according to a recent report, he is not even in the same state as the Houston Rockets.

Right now, Wall is working out in Miami, according to a report.

Despite that separation, he is seemingly unwilling to agree to a buyout with the Rockets, as any kind of agreement would lead to him losing out on a ton of money.

“John’s in Miami,” Marc J. Spears said during a recent podcast appearance. “He’s been working out. He actually asked the Rockets for permission to be in Miami so he could be near his kids and focus on working out.”

Wall last played in the 2020-21 season.

“One thing that Rich Paul has made clear, at least for now, John Wall’s agent, is that he’s not giving up any money,” Brian Windhorst added during the same podcast.

Wall is set to make over $44 million for the 2021-22 season and more than $47 million for the 2022-23 season if he opts in. Considering his injury history and the fact that he is already 31 years old, it makes perfect financial sense why he would not want to cut that contract short.

Last season, Wall proved that he can still be an impact player when healthy. He scored 20.6 points per contest in 40 games with the Rockets. He also added 3.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per contest.

Whether that sample size is enough to convince any team to trade for the five-time All-Star remains to be seen.
