The U.S. will undergo a major change next week, with Republican politician Donald Trump set to be inaugurated as the 47th president on Monday, Jan. 20.
While Trump won the popular vote in the November election, there are still many people who are dreading his second term as the U.S. president, and it appears that FS1’s Joy Taylor is among them.
Trump defeated Democratic challenger Kamala Harris in the November election, winning key battleground states en route to a relatively comfortable electoral college victory. The popular vote was closer, with Trump garnering around 77 million votes and Harris taking about 75 million.
The race was significantly altered when President Joe Biden dropped out in July, paving the way for someone else to represent the Democratic party. Harris was ultimately chosen as the new Democratic nominee and had to put a campaign together in short order. In the end, it wasn’t enough to defeat Trump in November.
Trump’s first term, which lasted from January of 2017 until January of 2021, heated up political discourse in the U.S. as he put together a controversial presidency. He was forced to leave office after falling in the 2020 election to Biden, but he is now set to return years later.
Trump’s inauguration on Monday will have a different look and feel due to freezing temperatures. The event will take place indoors.
With his November victory, Trump became just the second person to ever win back the U.S. presidency for a nonconsecutive second term. He will look to make the most out of his time as the 47th president before term limits will prevent him from running again in 2028.
Taylor certainly isn’t the only person in the sports world who is dreading Trump’s upcoming term, although there are certainly a fair number of people in sports who do support the 78-year-old Republican.
It’s a busy time in sports, with several leagues in action as January rolls on. Those in the sports world who feel the same way Taylor does about Trump may be able to use all the sports action as a distraction for a little while.
