Kendrick Perkins makes firm statement on NBA MVP voting: ‘If you have a Big 3 on your team, you cannot win the MVP award’

Retired NBA big man Kendrick Perkins has a very interesting take on the NBA MVP award for the upcoming season.

The 36-year-old believes that any player who has a Big 3 on his team “cannot win the MVP award.”

It sounds like Perkins believes that it’s too difficult for a player to accumulate MVP-caliber statistics when he has to play alongside multiple superstars. A handful of players might try to prove that notion wrong in the upcoming campaign.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets have the two most notable trios in the NBA.

The Lakers have a Big 3 that consists of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. The 2021-22 season will be the first year in which that trio will play together.

The Nets, meanwhile, have a Big 3 that features Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving. Those three players have one season under their belts as teammates, but health issues made it so that the trio saw limited action on the floor together during the 2020-21 campaign.

Brooklyn is hoping that its superstar core will be able to stay healthy for the 2021-22 season. If it does, the team is going to be a very tough out.

Time will tell if Perkins’ opinion holds up.
