Bronny unsure about LeBron’s future but looks forward to playing with him for ‘years to come’

Bronny James’ rookie season might not have been all that memorable from a statistical standpoint. After all, he suited up in well under half of the 82 games in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2024-25 regular season and averaged 2.3 points per game.

Plus, he didn’t score any points during the Lakers’ brief stint in the 2025 NBA Playoffs as he hardly saw the floor in the team’s first-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

But James did achieve one incredible accomplishment along with his father LeBron in his maiden NBA season. He and the elder James became the first father-son duo in the history of the league to share the court together.

The younger James, who did show major signs of growth throughout his rookie campaign, said recently that he’s excited for the opportunity to play alongside his father for years to come.

“I talked to Bronny about his favorite memories from the year, and he mentioned just the surreal idea of going to work with his dad,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin said. “And he said, ‘I look forward to that for years to come.’ So, it could not just be a swan song for LeBron James next year but a continuation, and he’ll try to maximize this thing. That’s what he’s done ever since 2003.”

What makes the younger James’ comments especially noteworthy is that the elder James has already played as many seasons as any player in the history of the league at 22. He’s also quite long in the tooth — particularly compared to when he started out his pro career — at 40 years old.

The younger James made some additional comments on his father’s future to FOX Sports. For one, he called playing with the elder James a “blessing” and that he’s “looking forward to learning more from him, if he’s still here or not.”

“It’s a blessing,” the younger James told FOX Sports. “Being able to learn from him, not only as a player, but as a dad. It’s a different type of relationship. I try to take full advantage of it because it’s something that a lot of people can’t have. It was an amazing experience for me. And I’m looking forward to learning more from him, if he’s still here or not, either way. But I’m just looking forward to it.”

He also made it clear that he wants the elder James to continue his NBA career into next season.

“Yeah, for sure,” the younger James told FOX Sports. “However long he can come back for, it’s always a pleasure being around him. He’s locked in. The stuff he does for his body and the preparation and stuff like that, I want to take full advantage of it.”

ESPN’s Shams Charania recently made a report that suggests the elder James and younger James will be teammates again in the 2025-26 campaign. He indicated that the elder James is expected to play one more season at the very least before he decides to put an end to his playing career.

Perhaps the younger James will have more opportunities to share the floor with the elder James now that he has one NBA season under his belt and took full advantage of his G League chances this season.

He saw incremental growth in his game over the course of the campaign and saved his best game with Los Angeles for near the end of the regular season. Against the Milwaukee Bucks on March 20, the younger James scored 17 points while shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 2-of-4 from deep.

Hopefully, the younger James and elder James have just scratched the surface of their stint playing together in the NBA and will continue to be teammates for a number of years.
