Former New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony’s son Kiyan recently said that the two would lose to LeBron James and his son Bronny in a game to 11 points, and the elder Anthony responded in jest to his son’s assertion.
The younger Anthony has yet to even play a single game of college basketball, as he still plays at the high school level. Specifically, the 17-year-old attends Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School.
But the youngster will seemingly have an opportunity to play for a top college program in the near future. He has already received offers from schools such as Syracuse University, the University of Memphis, Florida State University and the University of Dayton.
The elder Anthony, on the other hand, played 19 years in the NBA for six teams and earned 10 All-Star appearances and six All-NBA nods. As the younger Anthony alluded to, though, the 40-year-old has been out of the league ever since he played in 69 games with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2021-22 regular season.
While neither the younger Anthony nor the elder Anthony are playing in the NBA at this time, both the younger James as well as the elder James are members of the Lakers organization.
Beginning with the younger James, he was drafted by the Lakers with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. In his first Summer League game with Los Angeles earlier this month, he totaled four points on 2-of-9 shooting from the floor against the Sacramento Kings.
As for the elder James — who, along with the elder Anthony, was drafted in the 2003 NBA Draft — he is still one of the NBA’s best players despite being 39 years old. He averaged 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game across 71 appearances with the Lakers in the 2023-24 regular season.
Considering that the younger James and the elder James are playing in the sport’s most talented league while the younger Anthony and elder Anthony are not, it’s understandable why the younger Anthony doesn’t think his hypothetical team would win a game to 11.
