Los Angeles Lakers big man Christian Wood reportedly is being accused by his ex of attacking her earlier this month.
Yasmine Lopez, Wood’s ex, also is claiming that the Lakers big man told her not to report the incident in a text conversation.
“Los Angeles Lakers big man Christian Wood’s ex, Yasmine Lopez, is accusing him of brutally attacking her in a physical encounter earlier this month, TMZ Sports has learned … but his circle is adamant she’s making the whole thing up in retaliation,” TMZ reported.
Recently, Wood was granted custody of their 10-month-old son and also obtained a three-year restraining order against Lopez, but she filed for a domestic violence restraining order this week after accusing Wood of attacking her.
She claims that Wood grabbed her by the legs and dragged her with their child present.
“Lopez claims she suffered bruising and rashes on her leg as a result of the alleged incident … and required medical attention,” TMZ reported. “She also stated Wood texted her not to report what happened because the ‘Lakers run this town.’ She also accused him of purposely leaving her in the dark about court proceedings so he could obtain his court orders without a response from her.
“Lopez added she has ‘lived in fear of what is going to happen to our son and what Christian is going to do to me next’ after the alleged incident.”
These are serious accusations against Wood, who has been through a rocky past few months despite seeing his relationship with Lopez end back in December of 2022.
When Wood was granted a temporary restraining order earlier this year, he cited “mental and emotional stress” and damage to his property caused by Lopez.
According to TMZ, Holly J. Moore, Wood’s attorney, has said that Lopez is lying about the most recent incident with Wood as revenge for losing custody of their child.
“The allegations made by Ms. Lopez against my client, Christian Wood, are completely false and retaliatory in nature,” Moore told TMZ.
“My client was awarded sole legal and sole physical custody of the parties’ minor child by the court last Tuesday for a reason. Ms. Lopez is lashing out at the court’s decision by making sudden outrageous claims against my client, which we are prepared to rigorously defend with substantial evidence.”
There certainly is a lot to sort out legally given the rocky history between Wood and Lopez.
With the Lakers eliminated from the playoffs, it was recently reported that Wood has exercised his player option to return to the team for the 2024-25 season. Wood missed the end of the 2023-24 season – and the Lakers’ playoff series against the Denver Nuggets – after having surgery on his knee.
During the 2023-24 season, Wood appeared in 50 games for the Lakers, averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 30.7 percent from beyond the arc.
