Former NFL safety Ryan Clark recently spoke critically of the fact that Los Angeles Lakers guard Bronny James will only play in South Bay Lakers home games in the G League.
On Wednesday, former NBA guard Ron Harper, who won championships alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan on the Chicago Bulls and later won rings with Los Angeles, expressed agreement with Clark’s stance.
James last played for Los Angeles’ G League affiliate when the team took on the Stockton Kings a few days back on Nov. 17, which also just so happened to be South Bay’s most recent home contest. His professional basketball career has been plagued by scoring inefficiency dating back to his time in Summer League, and that status quo carried over into his most recent G League outing.
The 20-year-old got the start for South Bay, yet he scored just four points on 2-of-10 shooting from the field and misfired on both of his 3-point attempts. James is shooting just 21.1 percent from the floor and has yet to bury a single shot from deep two games into his G League career.
He has yet to have a breakout performance with South Bay or Los Angeles since the start of the NBA and G League campaigns, though he had a strong game in the Purple and Gold’s preseason finale against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 18. James totaled 17 points, four rebounds and three steals, but Los Angeles still lost that game by nearly 60 points.
James will have to wait and be patient for a few days before he’ll have an opportunity to play in another one of South Bay’s home games. The team won’t be playing back at home until it takes on the Kings once again on Nov. 24.
South Bay’s home arena is the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Health Training Center, which is located in El Segundo, Calif. It’s also where the big-league squad practices.
