Rashad McCants accuses LeBron James of never liking Anthony Davis

LeBron James has seen his time as teammates with Anthony Davis on the Los Angeles Lakers come to an end. Davis is now a member of the Dallas Mavericks after he and the NBA’s oldest player were partners in crime for more than five seasons.

Now that Luka Doncic is James’ co-star instead of Davis, former NBA player Rashad McCants boldly claimed that James was never fond of the former University of Kentucky standout.

There is no concrete evidence that James never liked his former teammate. In fact, James responded to a report that he had grown frustrated with Davis in Los Angeles by seemingly calling insider Bill Reiter a liar.

James and Davis achieved so much together playing for the Lakers. During their stint with the storied franchise, the Lakers made several playoff appearances, two Western Conference Finals appearances and won one NBA title.

Davis and James helped the Lakers win a title in their inaugural season as a dynamic duo. Los Angeles finished the truncated 2019-20 regular season with the top record in the West at 52-19 and then cruised through the 2020 NBA Playoffs. The Miami Heat were the only team to beat the Lakers more than once on their path to their 17th championship in franchise history.

Los Angeles made its second and final deep playoff run with Davis and James leading the way in 2023. The Lakers headed into the 2023 NBA Playoffs as just the No. 7 seed in their conference, yet they eliminated the No. 2 seed Memphis Grizzlies in the first round and then sent home the defending champion Golden State Warriors in the next round.

Considering how long James and Davis were the two top dogs on the Lakers, it’s hard to imagine that the former was not all that keen on the latter. Unless other information proves otherwise, folks have no reason to believe at the moment that James has anything but positive feelings for the 31-year-old. After all, their names will always be connected by Lakers fans for what they helped the team accomplish back at the start of the decade.
