Clippers guard reacts to Trump being called ‘stupid’: ‘He got in office and just start doing anything’

Donald Trump hasn’t even officially been president of the United States for two weeks in his second term, yet he’s already drawing plenty of controversy with the decisions he’s made.

Los Angeles Clippers guard Bones Hyland took to X to ask what’s going on with Trump amid all of the president’s contentious moves since he took office and then added some thoughts of his own.

As mentioned, Trump is already making major waves. For one, he signed an executive order targeting DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) programs.

He is also trying to change the definition of what birthright citizenship means under the 14th Amendment. Trump’s order asserts that a United States-born child is not a citizen if (1) the child’s mother doesn’t have legal immigration status or is only in the country temporarily and (2) the father isn’t a citizen of the country or lawful permanent resident.

Trump’s attempt to modify the 14th Amendment comes as he’s taken a hard stance on illegal immigration.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, otherwise known as ICE, has been working in recent days to arrest illegal immigrants. The agency has reportedly arrested more than 4,500 people since last Thursday. Trump has given ICE permission to conduct operations even inside places such as churches and schools.

Trump also made headlines this week for an order to freeze federal grants and loans, an order that has since been rescinded.

These are just some of the many controversial decisions the president has made since returning to the White House.

Amid the political drama, Hyland is in his fourth season in the NBA. Earlier in his career, he got his feet wet in the league with the Denver Nuggets. The now 24-year-old spent nearly two seasons playing alongside big man Nikola Jokic before he was dealt to the Clippers partway through the 2022-23 season.

The Clippers acquired him for only two second-round picks, but he hasn’t had a significant role for Los Angeles so far this season. He’s appeared in only 19 of the team’s 46 games and is averaging 11.3 minutes per game.

He last played for the Clippers in the team’s overtime loss to the Boston Celtics on Jan. 22. In that game, he totaled eight points while shooting 3-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-5 from 3-point range. He also accumulated two rebounds, two assists and one steal off the pine.
