After being one of the favorites to win the NBA championship all season, the Los Angeles Clippers blew a 3-1 series lead to the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs.
Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, the stellar backcourt of the Portland Trail Blazers, had some fun at the Clippers’ expense as the team neared postseason extinction.
After unexpectedly making the playoffs last year, the Clippers shocked the world by signing free agent superstar Kawhi Leonard and pulling off a trade for All-Star forward Paul George last July.
This led plenty of observers to not only expect the Clippers to win the title, but to also be perhaps the greatest defensive team in recent memory.
When they took a 3-1 lead over Denver, it looked like they would easily advance.
Instead, Denver overcame double-digit deficits in both Game 5 and Game 6 to win and force a seventh game.
The Nuggets did it again on Tuesday, falling behind by a dozen in the second quarter, only to come back and totally dominate the second half en route to a stunning 104-89 win.
They will now face the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.
