Jamal Crawford pens an emotional goodbye to the game of basketball

Veteran NBA guard Jamal Crawford has seemingly announced his retirement, ending a career that first began back in 2000.

Crawford, who turned 42 on Sunday, last played in the NBA as a member of the Brooklyn Nets during the 2019-20 season, seeing action in just a single game.

In a career that lasted two decades, Crawford was originally drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the eighth overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft. On the same night, the Cavaliers traded him to the Chicago Bulls, beginning a journey in which he played for nine different NBA teams.

For the majority of his NBA career, Crawford was used as an option off the bench by teams that needed some instant offense. Over the course of his career, he was never afraid to put the ball up from long range, ending his career with 2,221 triples.

Crawford was also effective at the foul line, closing out his NBA career with a shooting percentage of 86.2 percent on free throws. In that particular category, he led the league while playing for the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2011-12 season, hitting a whopping 92.7 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe.

The chances of Crawford eventually being elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame seem low. However, after a career in which he scored 19,419 points, he can certainly walk away with his head held high.
