Report: Los Angeles Clippers eyeing Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry

Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry are both near the end of their careers, but it seems like the Los Angeles Clippers are interested in them.

“The Clippers, I’m told, should be added to the list of teams that could emerge as a suitor for potential free agent Chris Paul,” wrote Marc Stein.

“Caveats are immediately required in this situation, since Paul might not even make it to free agency if the [Golden State] Warriors decide next month to keep him or trade hin to a team that wants to keep him.

“I nonetheless heard this week that Paul and Kyle Lowry, whose free agency is looming after finishing last season in Philadelphia, are veteran guards said to interest the Clippers.”

Paul’s contract isn’t guaranteed for the 2024-25 season, and there’s a chance he becomes a free agent this offseason. The 12-time All-Star was recently linked to the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs.

He’s coming off a season in which he averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game while knocking down 37.1 percent of his shots from behind the 3-point line.

The 39-year-old clearly still has the ability to contribute solid minutes to a contending team, so he shouldn’t have too much trouble figuring out his future this summer. Given that he’s yet to win a title in his career, he’s more than likely only going to play for a squad that has a solid shot at winning it all next season.

As for Lowry, he split time between the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers during the 2023-24 season. In January, he was traded by the Heat to the Charlotte Hornets, who subsequently waived him in February. He then signed with the 76ers and started in all six of their playoff games.

When Lowry joined the Heat back in 2021, it was thought that he was the type of player they needed in order to win their first title since 2013. However, he was never really able to live up to expectations in South Florida.

Lowry is 38 years old, which means he will likely try to sign with a team that has title aspirations. He did win a championship with the Toronto Raptors back in 2019 and made it to the Finals last year with the Heat.

Based on their respective resumes, Lowry and Paul are likely going to be inducted into the Hall of Fame once they are done with their playing careers, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to add a little more to those resumes next season.
