Mario Chalmers says LeBron James cookie drama came when Heat were working on historic win streak

Last month, Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade recounted a memorable story regarding his former teammate LeBron James and his love for cookies.

Per Wade, when he and James were teammates on the Heat, James would bring cookies with him on team flights. But one day, James was allegedly told that “there were no more cookies on the plane,” and Wade hinted that James was very unhappy upon hearing the news. He also said it was then and there that he had an “inkling” that James would maybe depart the Heat.

Former NBA guard Mario Chalmers was also part of those great Heat teams alongside James and Wade, and he recently gave some more context on James’ cookie drama. According to him, that all happened when the Heat were carving out a historic winning streak.

For as interesting as Chalmers’ comments are, the veracity of Wade’s story was called into question earlier this month. In light of Wade telling the tale, sports pundit Dan Le Batard asserted that multiple people within the Heat organization reached out to him indicating that some of Wade’s details were off.

Le Batard was told that Heat team president Pat Riley wasn’t involved in the matter because in his role, he didn’t travel or know about the flight food. Le Batard was told that it was the nutritionist, not Riley. Also, the dessert in question was said to be ice cream, not cookies.

James, Wade, Chalmers and the Heat (including big man Chris Bosh) put together one of the most dominant stretches of basketball the NBA has ever seen back in the 2012-13 regular season. The Heat won 27 games consecutively before they saw their streak get snapped at the hands of the Chicago Bulls in March of 2013.

After rattling off 27 straight wins, the Heat parlayed all of their regular-season success into a strong showing in the 2013 NBA Playoffs. They captured their second championship in a row by making it through the Eastern Conference side of the bracket then beating the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals.
