Fan threatened Giannis’ wife and family via social media during EuroBasket

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo recently wrapped up his EuroBasket stint when Greece took on Finland on Sept. 14 in a third-place game.

The Greeks won by a final score of 92-89 behind 30 points, 17 rebounds and six assists from Antetokounmpo, but the Greek Freak’s EuroBasket stint was arguably marred by a disturbing message his wife received.

A fan threatened Antetokounmpo’s wife and kids via social media, and his wife revealed a screenshot of the message on her Instagram account. She also made it clear that there is no place for this kind of behavior under any circumstances.

Antetokounmpo arguably played better than any other player who suited up in the EuroBasket tournament. He averaged the second-most points and ended up in a tie for the second-most rebounds per game of any player who participated.

Germany took home first-place honors after it beat Turkey in the title game on Sunday, and former NBA player Isaac Bonga was the team’s leading scorer in the winning effort with 20 points. The Germans also employed current NBA players in Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder and Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner.

While Antetokounmpo came up just short of a EuroBasket championship, it’s unlikely he will come so close to winning an NBA title with the Bucks in the coming 2025-26 season. Star guard Damian Lillard is no longer a member of the team, and the Bucks are probably lacking the talent around Antetokounmpo needed to compete at a high level, even in an Eastern Conference that doesn’t project to be incredibly formidable.

With the Bucks looking like they won’t have the makings of a contender in the 2025-26 season, it shouldn’t be shocking that Antetokounmpo has been bounced around in a lot of trade rumors over the last several months.

The former league MVP has spent the entirety of his 12-year NBA career with the Bucks and even won a championship with the team earlier this decade. However, Milwaukee has gone several years without winning so much as a single playoff series.
