The Milwaukee Bucks have continued to build their roster around superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason.
Milwaukee acquired New Orleans Pelicans star guard Jrue Holiday as it attempts to make a run at an NBA title.
With Antetokounmpo still set to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2020-21 season, the Bucks are going all in to keep their star in Milwaukee.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Bucks believe they have a good chance of re-signing Antetokounmpo.
They believe he is not like Kevin Durant or LeBron James and wants to be with the team that drafted him going forward.
“No, the Bucks have remained confident,” he said. “I have to say this. Since the day the season ended, they weren’t feeling great about everything at that time, but talk to those people. They’re like, ‘Look, Giannis is not like Kevin Durant. Giannis is not like LeBron James. This is a different guy. We believe he is all in with us. We believe he is gonna stay.’ And they have consistently said that.”
The Bucks were bounced in the second round of the playoffs last season, but Windhorst believes that they have a solid offseason that can only get better if Antetokounmpo re-signs.
“If Giannis recommits, if Giannis re-signs, whether it’s this weekend or it’s in two weeks, he has until Dec. 21,” Windhorst said. “The Bucks get an A-plus-plus on this offseason. Not necessarily because I think they made the greatest moves, but getting that player to stay with you, to give you runway, is as great as of an accomplishment as a team like the Bucks can have.”
Antetokounmpo has won back-to-back MVP awards and will certainly have several suitors if he does decide to test the free-agent waters.
