Bryn Forbes, who won an NBA championship as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks back in 2021, has been arrested on a third-degree felony charge for strangulation/choking of a family member.
The incident reportedly took place in San Antonio. Forbes spent five seasons of his NBA career playing for the storied San Antonio Spurs organization.
Information on Forbes’ bond has also been made public.
The guard has a history of legal trouble. He was arrested on a misdemeanor family violence charge back in February of last year — shortly after he was waived by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He reportedly had an argument with a woman and hit her several times.
The 30-year-old last played in the NBA for the Timberwolves during the 2022-23 regular season. Across 25 games played with the team and zero starts, he averaged 3.6 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game while shooting 36.1 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from 3-point range.
Forbes played just one season with the Bucks, the 2020-21 season. In 72 appearances with Milwaukee during the regular season, he averaged 10.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game on 45.2 percent shooting from deep in what was one of the most productive seasons of his NBA career.
The guard played inconsistent basketball during the Bucks’ playoff run in 2021, evidenced by the fact that he shot 35.5 percent from the field or lower in three of Milwaukee’s four playoff series. But in the Bucks’ series against the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2021 playoffs, Forbes scored the ball with great efficiency. He averaged 15.0 points per game while shooting 52.5 percent from the floor and 48.5 percent from 3-point range across four games.
Forbes’ future in the NBA was already uncertain before his arrest, considering he hasn’t suited up in a single game so far in the 2023-24 regular season. But in light of the incident, it seems particularly unlikely that a team is going to add Forbes to its roster before the end of the season — or perhaps at any point in the future.
