Nick Young implies Anthony Edwards could ultimately bump Michael Jordan to No. 3 in G.O.A.T. rankings

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has turned a lot of heads with his electrifying play and stellar production this season. Interestingly, Nick Young believes Edwards could eventually join the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) discussion and even surpass Michael Jordan in the process.

The retired triggerman once voiced his opinion on the Jordan versus LeBron James debate, seemingly siding with the Los Angeles Lakers star based on the differences in the levels of competition the legends faced throughout their respective careers.

Young thinks Edwards may crash the party in the future and even surpass the Chicago Bulls icon. It’s also worth noting that he anointed “Ant-Man” as the new Jordan during the 22-year-old’s impressive showing for Team USA in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Edwards has continued his fine play from the event to the 2023-24 NBA season. He was key to the Wolves’ rise to one of the top teams in the Western Conference in the regular season, averaging career-highs of 25.9 points and 5.1 assists per game.

Thanks in large part to his leadership and on-court brilliance, Minnesota contended for the West’s No. 1 seed for much of the campaign before dropping to third place in the end.

That set the Wolves up with a first-round matchup against the Phoenix Suns. Some folks probably thought that the Suns’ Big 3 of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal could overwhelm Minnesota. However, so far, Edwards and company have proved them wrong — at least for one contest.

The Wolves took Game 1 at home, blowing the Suns out 120-95. Edwards led all scorers with 33 points and finished the game shooting 14-for-24 from the field. He also chipped in nine rebounds and six assists.

Only time will tell if Minnesota can continue its winning ways and clinch three more victories in its series against Phoenix. If it is able to do so, a rematch with the second-seeded Denver Nuggets could await the team in the Western Conference semifinals.

The Nuggets eliminated the Wolves in the 2023 playoffs, but they found it difficult to contain Edwards, who put up 31.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists per match in the series.
