Two of the NBA’s biggest stars in Los Angeles Lakers big man Anthony Davis and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards will walk Floyd Mayweather Jr. to the ring in his exhibition fight versus John Gotti III on Saturday, according to TMZ Sports.

“Justin Bieber, Lil’ Wayne, and Snoop Dogg have done it … and when boxing legend Floyd Mayweather finally returns to the ring for his scrap with John Gotti III on Saturday, there will be no lack of star power — Anthony Edwards and Anthony Davis will accompany TBE to the squared circle!” TMZ Sports reported.

“TMZ Sports has learned Edwards and Davis, NBA superstars who just won gold medals as a part of Team USA in Paris, will be in Mexico City (Money got a heroes welcome!) on August 24 for the event.”

The 47-year-old has been walked out by the likes of Bieber and Lil Wayne in the past. When Mayweather fought Canelo Alvarez in the year 2013, he was accompanied by Bieber.

Mayweather and Gotti boxed one another not all that long ago. The two fought in an exhibition bout back in June of 2023, though Kenny Bayless — the referee for the match — called off the fight in the sixth round. That’s because a brawl erupted in the ring after Gotti began to show frustration and started fighting aggressively. That led to both fighters and their entourages jumping into the melee.

Gotti has far less experience as a boxer than Mayweather does. After all, Gotti previously fought in the MMA and has a boxing record of just 2-0.

Mayweather, on the other hand, is one of the most accomplished boxers in the history of the sport. He hasn’t lost a single one of his 50 matches, and he also has 27 knockouts along with 12 world championships in five weight classes to his name.

Though, it’s notable that his professional boxing career came to an end after he landed a technical knockout against Conor McGregor in 2017.

Folks will be able to tune in to the rematch between Mayweather and Gotti on the streaming platform called DAZN, and the fight is expected to begin around midnight on the East Coast.

Davis and Edwards will hope that Mayweather’s incredible success as a professional boxer will rub off on them and their NBA careers. Edwards has yet to so much as even appear in an NBA Finals. Davis also hasn’t won a title since the year 2020, and the Lakers are fresh off a first-round exit in the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

Both Edwards and Davis contributed to Team USA winning a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics recently. In the gold medal game against France, the former finished with eight points and the latter chipped in eight points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
