The Orlando Magic and Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly were close to an agreement that would have sent forward Aaron Gordon to Minnesota.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, the deal would have sent Ricky Rubio and draft picks to the Magic.

However, Gordon suffered an ankle sprain that caused the deal to be put on hold.

“Until Gordon’s left ankle sprain that sidelined him for six weeks, the Timberwolves and Magic were nearing an agreement on a package for Gordon that centered on Ricky Rubio and future draft capital, sources said,” Fischer wrote.

The Timberwolves are just 9-30 this season and are in last place in the Western Conference.

Still, Gordon has one more year remaining on his deal, and Minnesota could have tried to see if he and Karl-Anthony Towns would’ve been a good pairing in the frontcourt.

It is still possible that the Magic deal Gordon before the March 25 trade deadline, but with Minnesota so far out of the playoff picture, it will be interesting to see if it would still want to part with draft picks to acquire him.

This season, Gordon is averaging 13.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
