According to a report, the Minnesota Timberwolves believe they’re a “perfect fit” for Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons.
“(Sachin Gupta) absolutely is a fan of Ben Simmons,” NBA insider Jon Krawczynski said during a recent podcast appearance. “He was in Philadelphia when Ben Simmons first got there. I do think that overall, just the organization’s position is that Ben Simmons is a perfect fit for their roster for what they need and what Ben Simmons needs from a team around him. So I do think that they are going to continue to pursue Ben Simmons aggressively, I can’t say, you know, 100 percent that, you know, they’re in the driver’s seat, or it’s going to happen or anything like that. But I do know that the dismissal of Gersson Rosas has not poured any cold water on their pursuit of Simmons, they really think that he can be a difference maker.”
The Timberwolves are trying to expedite their rebuild after three straight losing seasons. The addition of Simmons would make things very interesting in Minnesota.
The team has a very solid foundation in place that features Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards, but it remains to be seen if there would be any way for the Timberwolves to keep that core intact while trading for Simmons.
Simmons’ versatility is going to make him an asset wherever he lands. His 6-foot-11 frame opens up a variety of possibilities regarding his potential fit with a new team.
The former No. 1 overall pick averaged 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game last season. He remains a solid player despite some of his woes as a shooter.
