The story of Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans is an odd one.

The entire city of New Orleans celebrated when the team landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

However, since joining the team, Williamson has played in just 85 total regular season games. He has yet to step foot on an NBA court this season.

According to Jordan Schultz, there seems to be a possibility that Williamson will never again play in a Pelicans uniform.

“Just on the big picture here, I don’t know if Zion Williamson is gonna ever play for the Pelicans again,” he said. “He’s played 85 games in his career. If you don’t trade him this summer, Dan [Patrick], what are you going to get for him long term? And if you don’t believe he’s going to stay healthy, what are we talking about here?

“I think there is a very good chance he will not be back, and they will trade him this summer.”

It may seem like a shocking statement, but the writing does seem to be on the wall when it comes to Williamson’s future in New Orleans. Throughout his young career, there have been rumblings that Williamson and his family are unhappy to be with the Pelicans.

While a star player being traded this early in his career would be somewhat unheard of, norms are meant to be broken.

With just a couple months to go before the NBA offseason gets underway, it will be fascinating to see if trade rumors revolving around Williamson gain momentum.
