The New Orleans Pelicans will be without rising star Zion Williamson to begin the season.
The youngster is recovering from offseason surgery, and there is currently no timetable for his return.
This certainly isn’t how the Pelicans wanted to start the year. Without Williamson, the team will have to look elsewhere for some major production on the glass and at the rim.
The 21-year-old is on an outstanding trajectory at the NBA level. In the 2020-21 season, he posted averages of 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
New Orleans hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2017-18 season, and the organization is looking to put an end to that drought as soon as possible.
The Pelicans will open their regular season on Oct. 20 against the Philadelphia 76ers.
