Zion Williamson’s significant response when asked if he’d sign extension with New Orleans Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson revealed his plans if he’s offered a contract extension by the team.

It’s not a surprise that Williamson is willing to sign an extension, as he is eligible this offseason to sign a new deal. The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft still has one year left on his rookie contract.

Williamson did not play in the 2021-22 season, as he dealt with a foot injury and had setbacks in his recovery.

The injury history could be another reason why Williamson would be willing to sign an extension with New Orleans, as he may not want to risk missing out on future money because of an injury.

When healthy, Williamson is one of the most explosive players in the NBA, and he made the All-Star team during the 2020-21 season.

During the 2020-21 campaign, Williamson averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 0.6 blocks per game while shooting 61.1 percent from the field.

The Pelicans made the playoffs without Williamson this season, but he would certainly raise the team’s ceiling if he is healthy in the 2022-23 campaign.

Williamson would pair nicely with C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram for New Orleans. Ingram took a major step forward in the playoffs this season, helping the Pelicans force the top-seeded Phoenix Suns to six games.

The Pelicans and their fans have to be happy that Williamson is willing to commit to the franchise for the long term, especially after the Pels played so well this season even though he was out.
