The rumor mill in the NBA is starting to heat up with Derrick Rose of the Detroit Pistons mentioned once again as a big name player that could be on the move before the trade deadline on March 25.
One of the teams currently linked to Rose in recent trade rumors is one of his former teams in the New York Knicks. Although New York hasn’t reached out to the team about a potential deal, the Knicks have interest in acquiring the one-time NBA MVP.
“The Knicks, among others, have interest in Rose, an NBA source familiar with the situation confirmed to The Post,” wrote Marc Berman of the New York Post. “According to sources, the Knicks have not had any discussions yet with the Pistons.”
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau appears to favor a reunion with Rose, whom he coached while with the Chicago Bulls. Rose was in his prime at that time before injuries became a persistent problem for the veteran guard.
“The Post has learned Thibodeau pushed hard to sign Gibson recently for depth,” wrote Berman. “Sources close to Thibodeau believe he would still like to reunite with Rose.”
The Pistons are struggling once again this season with seemingly no direction and could be a team that becomes highly active ahead of the NBA trade deadline, with Rose and Blake Griffin being prominent players potentially on the move.
Rose is averaging 14.8 points, 4.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Pistons this season.
