The resurgent New York Knicks are focused on the current season, but are also reportedly looking at signing Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry when free agency arrives this summer.
Ian Begley of Sny.tv reported that the Knicks are looking at a number of different options at guard, with Lowry expected to have multiple suitors when free agency gets underway.
“Kyle Lowry is among the point guards on the Knicks’ radar for the 2021 offseason, SNY has learned,” wrote Begley.
“Lowry will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. He will likely command multi-year offers from several teams, but his future in Toronto is unclear due to the uncertainty over the future direction of the franchise.”
Begley also pointed out that the Knicks have one key edge when it comes to signing the 35-year-old guard, who’s currently in his ninth season with the Raptors.
“New York will have significant cap space this summer,” Begley wrote. “The club will likely be able to offer Lowry a one-year deal worth more than the annual value of any multi-year offers he gets from other teams. The Knicks can also offer Lowry a multi-year deal in free agency.”
Unlike past seasons, when the chaos surrounding the Knicks’ organization presumably scared away potential free agents, the team’s comeback season and its ample cap space now make it a more inviting option.
One team that could make any pursuit of Lowry more difficult is the Miami Heat, who have been prominently mentioned before as a possible landing spot for the veteran.
