In January, the New York Knicks acquired 22-year-old small forward Cam Reddish via trade.
Reddish, who enjoyed a much larger role during his time with the Atlanta Hawks, only ended up playing in 15 games with the Knicks last season.
However, he is still seen as a player with a fair amount of upside, and the Knicks are reportedly taking calls on Reddish as the offseason continues.
“This could, however, explain some of the Knicks’ willingness to discuss trades involving Reddish,” Fred Katz of The Athletic wrote. “Sources say the Knicks had been open to calls about the 22-year-old they acquired in January. There has been some interest.”
This summer, the Knicks are sure to be at the center of a lot of rumors, as they always seem to be. Though they haven’t had much success attracting major talent in recent years, the franchise does seem to be in a better position than it used to be.
The Knicks missed the playoffs during the 2021-22 season, but they were one of the pleasant surprises in the league the season before. Moreover, R.J. Barrett seems to be a star in the making. If the Knicks can add some talent at positions of need and land a big fish via free agency, they could be right back in the mix for a playoff spot next season.
What is not currently clear is what Reddish’s perceived value is like. He’s a 6-foot-8 wing who can impress on both sides of the ball, but he has yet to really live up to his potential.
Still, there are surely teams around the league that would love to try to help him reach that potential. It will be interesting to see what types of packages teams around the league put together, if any, for the Duke University product.
