Kevin Durant offered a blunt retort to Oklahoma City Thunder fans who are under the impression that he hung out with Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green during the 2016 Western Conference Finals.

Durant chatted with Green on his podcast “The ETCs with Kevin Durant” and offered (beginning at the 33-second mark) a caustic response to the idea that no doubt developed from the frustration of fans of his former team.

“This is for OKC fans,” said Durant. “They thought me and Dray was hanging out, literally like, chilling, with each other during the conference finals. And when I heard that s—, I was like, ‘Man, what the f- who do ya’ll think I am? Who you think Draymond would hang out with me during the conference finals, over at my house? Come on, stop the bulls—.”

What allowed the rumor to flourish was partly related to the fact that Durant’s Thunder watched a 3-1 lead in the series evaporate to send Green’s Warriors to the NBA Finals for the second straight season.

In addition, Green’s allegedly emotional phone call to Durant that came after the series with the Thunder had ended also become part of the lore connected to Green and Durant.

When Durant then signed as a free agent to join Green and the Warriors, that belief over the rumors became even more entrenched in the minds of some Thunder fans.

Durant has since moved on to the Brooklyn Nets, while Green remains with the Warriors, but it’s clear that Durant’s departure from the Thunder continues to resonate nearly five years after it took place.
