NBA insider is ‘confident’ Tobias Harris will be on a new team by the end of the summer

Action Network’s Matt Moore believes that Philadelphia 76ers forward Tobias Harris will have a new team by the end of the summer.

While Moore believes Harris will be moved, he did not mention a potential trade package for the Sixers forward.

“Tobias Harris for the Sixers and Tyus Jones for the [Memphis] Grizzlies are two players I am confident will be on new teams by the end of the summer,” Moore wrote.

Harris is entering the final season of his contract in the 2023-24 campaign.

The Sixers could look to move Harris to improve their roster around Joel Embiid, but he isn’t the only player that could be on the move for Philly.

James Harden could also end up leaving the Sixers in free agency if he declines his player option with the team. That would give the Sixers a true weakness at point guard, and one that the team might use a Harris trade to fill.

A first-round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, Harris has played with several teams in his NBA career. He began with the Milwaukee Bucks and has also played for the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers and of course the Sixers.

During the 2022-23 season, Harris saw his numbers take a bit of a hit with a lot of mouths to feed in the Sixers’ offense.

Between Embiid, Harden, Harris and Tyrese Maxey, there were only so many shots to go around. Harris ended up averaging 14.7 points per game, his lowest since the 2015-16 season. He attempted just 11.4 shots per game, his lowest since his second season in the NBA.

Philly may be better off moving Harris to get multiple players to deepen the team’s roster this offseason.

The Sixers had a successful 2022-23 season, but they ended up losing to the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs. Philly led 3-2 in its series against Boston, but it lost the final two games to get knocked out of the postseason.

As a result, the team fired head coach Doc Rivers and hired Nick Nurse this offseason.

With Harris in the final season of his contract, teams may be more willing to make a deal for him since he will be off their books after the 2023-24 season.
