NBA floor general Isaiah Thomas shared that someone recently pulled an AK-47 on him but recognized Thomas and didn’t pull the trigger on him and his friends.
After not playing a single NBA game during the 2022-23 campaign, Thomas joined the Phoenix Suns during the 2023-24 regular season and averaged 1.3 points and 0.5 assists per contest across six appearances with the team.
Thomas then played just over three minutes in Game 1 of Phoenix’s first-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves before not logging another minute of playing time in Games 2, 3, and 4 of the series, which ended in the Suns getting swept.
It’s evident that the floor general isn’t the same caliber of player he was during his heyday in the NBA, when he was a member of the iconic Boston Celtics franchise. Despite his diminutive stature, Thomas was one of the top scorers in the NBA for a couple of seasons.
In the 2015-16 regular season, he averaged 22.2 points per game on 42.8 percent accuracy from the floor in 82 appearances with Boston. He also earned the first All-Star nod of his pro career that season and led the Celtics to a 48-34 regular-season record.
Thomas subsequently followed up his productive 2015-16 season by scoring the ball at an even higher level in the 2016-17 season, his third and final season with the Celtics. The 5-foot-9 guard averaged a career-high 28.9 points per game in 76 games with the Celtics during the regular season and finished fifth in the league’s MVP voting.
He averaged what is tied for the third-most points per game in a single season in the history of the Celtics franchise. Only Jayson Tatum — who averaged 30.1 points per contest in the 2022-23 campaign — and Larry Bird — who averaged 29.9 points per game in the 1987-88 season — have had higher scoring averages in a Celtics uniform.
While Thomas isn’t lighting up opposing teams on the offensive end like he was a few years back, it was great to see him make a return to the league, and hopefully he will play in the NBA during the 2024-25 campaign as well.
