Phoenix Suns

Richard Jefferson says Kevin Durant and Devin Booker aren’t getting along

The Phoenix Suns have had a pretty significant fall from grace since the first couple weeks of the 2024-25 regular season. Across the Suns’ first nine games of the season, the team looked like a well-oiled machine.

Phoenix was 8-1 after it beat the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 8, but it’s been mostly downhill for the team since then. The Suns’ current record is 16-19, meaning they have won only eight of their last 26 games following their torrid start.

With the Suns mired in a months-long slump, former NBA player Richard Jefferson said that two of Phoenix’s biggest stars — Kevin Durant and Devin Booker — aren’t getting along.

It’s unclear if Jefferson has any inside info or if he’s just relaying what he’s seeing.

“At what time has K.D. been teaming up with his boys worked out the way he would like?” Jefferson asked. “Because before, he loved Devin Booker. There was a mutual respect. Now, they’re not getting along. Don’t really mess with Bradley Beal. Bradley Beal’s out. Now, they’re gonna bring in Jimmy Butler potentially because that’s what K.D. wants.”

Durant is in his third season playing alongside Booker on the Suns. Unfortunately, Phoenix hasn’t had much success in the playoffs with the four-time scoring champion on the roster.

In the 2023 NBA Playoffs, the Suns were bounced in the second round by the Denver Nuggets. In the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Durant and company were swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the opening round.

If the Suns continue to play how they’ve been playing the past couple months this season, the team might not even make the playoffs in 2025. Phoenix wouldn’t even qualify for the play-in tournament if the campaign ended today, as the Suns own just the No. 12 seed in the Western Conference.

To add insult to injury, the Suns are on the heels of one of their most embarrassing losses of the season. The Charlotte Hornets snapped their 10-game losing streak when they beat Phoenix by 11 points earlier this week. Even 65 combined points from Durant and Booker weren’t enough to lead Phoenix to a win.

It may be worth considering whether Durant and Booker will last as a duo for the Suns. Booker is only 28 years old and has long been the face of the franchise while Durant is 36 and likely doesn’t have too many dominant seasons left.
