Suns introduce new ‘$2 Value Menu’ for remaining home games this season

The Phoenix Suns’ official X account made an announcement on Wednesday morning that is likely to excite those who frequently attend Footprint Center. The Suns have dropped the prices of several food and drink items — such as a hot dog, 16-ounce soda, bag of chips and bag of popcorn — to just $2 each to create an affordable menu.

Maybe the Suns are lowering their menu prices in the hope that it will help boost attendance. Through 13 home games for Phoenix so far this season, the team is averaging just 17,071 fans in attendance per contest, which ranks 20th out of the 30 teams in the league.

Despite the fact that the Suns’ Footprint Center is far from the most popular arena to fill in the league, Phoenix still has one of the better home records in all of basketball at this juncture. The Suns’ home record of 9-4 ranks 10th in the NBA, and the team picked up a win in its most recent home game, which came against the Portland Trail Blazers back on Dec. 15.

Phoenix’s season to this point has been a tale of two proximities, as the Suns have fared far better at home than they have on the road with 25 games of their regular season in the rearview mirror. Phoenix actually has lost more games on the road than its won, going 5-7.

Perhaps the best microcosm of the Suns’ struggles away from home so far this season came when they lost to an injury-riddled New Orleans Pelicans team at Smoothie King Center back on Dec. 5. The Pelicans were without Zion Williamson, arguably their best player, yet they came out on top by two points behind a big scoring game from Brandon Ingram. It’s worth noting that Kevin Durant did not play in that matchup for Phoenix.

NBA fans should keep tabs on the Suns’ attendance numbers in the coming weeks now that they’ve added a $2 menu. If more fans begin to pile into Footprint Center to cheer on the Suns in light of the price changes, hopefully other teams around the league will consider making similar changes to their menus.
